For patients who prefer their braces to be discreet, our clinic offers lingual braces - truly invisible braces where the brackets and archwires are set tongue side behind the teeth.
Completely hidden from view, lingual braces have become increasingly-popular with working adults in recent years.
Made up of the same components as metal braces, lingual braces are customised according to the contours of the back of the teeth, and require a certain level of orthodontic skills and precision to apply.
Because of its placement behind the teeth, wearers of lingual braces can experience discomfort, particularly at the tongue area. Our experienced orthodontist Dr Tan offers an improved version of lingual braces, where thinner and comfier titanium wires are used; the size of the brackets can also be customised to reduce any discomfort.
Additionally, lisping may take a longer time of about 2 to 4 weeks to overcome, as compared to less than 1 week for conventional metal and ceramic braces.
